BBC’s Blue Planet UK

St Abbs was thrilled to host the team from the BBC’s Blue Planet UK. Some fantastic footage of St Abbs, along with lots of info on the great work being carried out all around the UK to protect our seas. Especially by our friends at the St Abbs Marine Station – keep up the good work guys!

CLOSED FOR 2018 SEASON

We are now closed until spring next year.  Thank you to everyone who visited us and we hope to see you again next year.

MUSICAL INTERPRETATION OF BLACK FRIDAY

It will soon be the anniversary of the Great Fishing Disaster – Black Friday. It is 137 years since the fishing boats from the Berwickshire coast went out to sea on 14th October 1881. Many did not return. We have a presentation by Eyemouth High School pupils and the electric voice theatre which tells the story of the storm in song and music, interpreted from the meteorological data of that day.

NEW STOCK IN GIFT SHOP

We now have a great range in our gift shop.  Lots of toys and games to keep the children and adults occupied!  Cards and postcards, books, keyrings, nautical gifts, paperweights and much, much more!  Come in and have look.  Perfect for presents!

NEW EXHIBITS

We have added to our collection of skeletons.  Come in and guess what they are!

FISH TANK

Our fish tank, which replicates life in a local rockpool, is now well established.  We have a great variety of creatures!  Here are some of them!

NOW OPEN FOR 2018

We opened our doors for the season  at the end of March with our usual opening hours 10am -5pm, Monday – Sunday.

We have lots for you to see in 2018 including the return of our fish tank (with rock pool wildlife) and some different exhibits.   We also have lots of new ranges in our shop, including toys, nicknacks and quality souvenirs.  We look forward to seeing you!

NEW STOCK IN THE GIFT SHOP

This year we have some beautiful new ranges in the gift shop.

We have ceramics and textiles from Hannah Turner which are designed and made in Britain with an environmental ethos.

We also have a range of paperweights from Hafod Grange in Wales.  These are made from dried botanical specimens such as blooms and seed heads embedded in clear polyester resin.  They are cast in a globe shape which allows the specimen to be seen in its beauty from all angles, creating a crystal clear effect.

We have a variety of postcards, cards, magnets and books too as well as childrens’ toys and St Abbs lifeboat stock.  And don’t forget our bespoke  prints and magnets of St Abbs by Eilidh Muldoon and Andy Tuohy!

ART COMPETITION OVERALL WINNER

The overall winner in our art competition was chosen by Eilidh Muldoon, an Edinburgh artist who has produced some art work of St Abbs for us this year.  The winner is Iona Gillie from Ayton’s Primary 5 and she won a framed print of her picture.  Her picture has also been made into a postcard which we are selling here with all proceeds going to Ayton school’s Parent Council.
